RESEARCH INTEREST

My research focusses broadly on the surface-uplift of orographic barriers and its spatiotemporal climatic effects on the environment. In particular, I am interested in the topographic evolution of the East African Rift System before and after the initiation of extensional processes. My research involves a combination of different alternative modelling approches to reconstruct paleoelevations and -environments in that region (e.g., lava-flow modelling, thermodynamical modelling and thermomechanical 3D-modelling). Furthermore, I am interested in lithospheric processes and its topographic expressions on the surface, as well as in systematics in structural geology (from large-scale to small-scale microscope observations).
